John was found as a child on the edge of a farm, and soon began to display amazing powers. He helped mankind, for a time, but as life went on, and on, this superhuman set his sights to the stars instead. With an infinite lifespan and an apparently limitless set of powers, John has to face the hardest of questions. What do you do, what should you do, when you can do anything?

Greg van Eekhout is an American fantasy and science fiction writer born and raised in Los Angeles. After a lengthy stay in the suburban deserts of Arizona, he recently returned to California and now lives in San Diego. Following his professional debut, a story in Starlight 3, he published a couple of dozen stories, appearing in most of the genre's major science fiction magazines, several anthologies, and a number of Year's Best compilations. His story "In the Late December" was a Nebula finalist. His novels include Norse Code, middle-grade books Kid vs. Squid and The Boy at the End of the World (an Andre Norton Award finalist), and three forthcoming fantasy novels from Tor.
